Everybody has the right to be somebody… Tackling Disability Hate Crime
The idea of attacking or a abusing an individual because of their disability is absolutely unimaginable. However, this may be one reason why only 68 cases of disability hate crime were prosecuted between April and September 2007. Our vision is for a society where everybody has the right to be somebody without fear of abuse and crime just because they are perceived to be different.
We aim to achieve this by:
- raising awareness of disability hate crime, and ensure that people have the confidence to report it.
- providing support help and information to victims or witnesses of a crime through the Voice UK helpline
- promoting justice for victims of disability hate crime throughout the UK.
- supporting and encouraging people to get Equal Access to Justice in the Criminal Justice System by delivering informal workshops to groups of people with Learning Disabilities and their carers.
- working with groups and organisations to protect people from abuse.
